Pierogi!

Wow, I can’t believe it’s only 20:00! O.o Although, today was my day to just sit back and relax. Which actually was very nice. Work, again, was slow. I ended up writing the beginning of some story during my time at work, haha. Besides that, I was tired all day, again. Didn’t get enough sleep, cause I went to bed late because I think I was working on some artsy things last night?
Hahaha, for whatever reason, I just remembered a question one of the Mormon missionaries asked me. You see, they asked me where I was from, so of course, I said Tennessee. One of them looked confused and asked me, “Uh, why don’t you have the accent?” Hah! I love it when that happens. Obviously, that’s thanks to my Polish parents, but still. That question always makes me giggle. And it was nice hearing it, because honestly, you don’t know that stereotype unless you’re in the States; most people in Poland have no clue where Tennessee is, or if I mention Memphis, they say Elvis. Therefore, the Southern drawl isn’t as well known. Just a little quirk. (:
Anyways, after work, wow, getting home was a mess. Today was the start of the European Cultural Congress in Wrocław, and because of that, the trams going from Rynek towards the direction I needed to go were all messed up. … When I say messed up, I mean, every single tram ended up going some foreign way. So I hopped on a tram, and it was an interesting ride! Although, I didn’t want to get lost, so I got off after two unknown stops. And waited for a long time for another tram to take me somewhere I recognize. And hope for the trams to run normally. It was bizarre, to be honest. Plus, I was starving. Eventually, I got to the Opera stop, and the tram that came by ended up going the normal way! Woo! Of course, normally, it wouldn’t matter how I got home, but today, I was getting pierogi, so I had no clue how to get there from any way other than the normal way. Thus lots of tram hopping in hopes of finally arriving to food.
It worked. I walked there, and on this trip, I talked to Michał’s Agata! We made plans for the weekend, and I’m going there this weekend! Huzzah! It requires me getting out of work early tomorrow, but it’s not like I do much anyways, and it’s not like I really ever take lunch breaks, so I’m not too concerned… That and I plan on heading in extra early as well. Therefore, all of this should cushion me well enough. Besides that, I also found out Michał got me tickets for the Cultural Congress, which were supposedly sold out. Of course, this is no surprise, but I am still very pleased! I hope I can make it to something… I don’t know what, though; it’ll depend on the program and if anything truly catches my eye.
The pierogi bar was great. I got barszcz z uszkami. Uszki, in this case, are basically specially folded cabbage pierogi. I don’t know how else to explain it. Either way, it was good, and for dessert, I had strawberry pierogi. Blueberry pierogi, hands down, are far better. Regardless, I stand by my statement: I could live off of pierogi. On my Alternative Spring Break trip this year, one of the guys in our group asked everyone, “If you were on death row and had one last meal, what would it be?” I replied, “Blueberry pierogi and my dad’s homemade bread.” Honestly, I still stand by that. That’s all I would need to be happy with a last meal.
Why could I live off of pierogi, you ask? Well, I asked myself that today. It’s quite simple. You can stuff them with anything, essentially. Fruits, whatever filling you want, but most commonly, potatoes, cabbage, meat, just whatever. It’s food wrapped in dough. I love raw dough (sometimes more than the final products…), and of course, this is dough that’s been boiled, but that’s far more “raw” than say, ohhh some baked good. Delicious. Then you spread lots of butter on it. Who doesn’t love butter?! It’s all-around perfect. I honestly can’t wait until the pierogi making party with my roomies and other program buddies in Krakow. Since there are only 8 of us, I’d say it’d be a great bonding experience for the group. After all, the more the merrier! :D
If you want an idea of how much I love pierogi, yesterday, when I was with my cousin, she would explain to me certain restaurants. In every explanation, she’d say, “They have lots of options, like pierogi, and other stuff.” Sometimes, she’d explain what the other stuff was, but she knew as well as I did, that hearing pierogi was more than enough for me. Besides, I know what that other stuff is. Typical Polish foods, all delicious. <3
That’s really all that there was to my day… Yeah, I know. Work and food. Well, I mean, on my way home I checked out some hair salons to compare prices. My bangs are getting annoying… And I have no scissors. So to the salon I must go! Besides that, I spent my evening chillin’ on my couch in my apartment, drawing away. I really ought to go pack and get some sleep so I’m not completely wiped out tomorrow…
