An Evening with my Cousin: To Ikea!

Man, this week is going by great! :D Seriously. Work was work, although I did send in my ASB site leader application! Here’s to hoping! <3 After work, I met up with my cousin Agata, and her husband Adam! We met up in front of the Fredro statue in the square. From there, we went on a walk to see the Bar Bazylia, which is a student’s cafeteria, essentially, where you pay 2.49 for every 100 grams. Basically, it’s a good deal. We were going to eat there, but since there was a line out the door, likely courses had just got out, so something similar to Vanderbilt lunch hour in Rand, we decided against it. They showed me more of the side streets by Rynek and the nifty things they have. Such as handmade art and crafts stuff and a really good chocolate place, apparently. I’m definitely going to go visit there sometime. Unfortunately, a lot of it is under construction in preparation for the Euro Cup… ya know… so it’s pretty and people who come from all over Europe say, wow! Poland actually has something nifty going on! Hahahaha. Instead of thinking we’re still backwards people… Which… some people do think that.
Anyways. We ended up eating in the square anyways, at some Mexican restaurant. I got a chicken and veggie tortilla omelette thing, which was delicious, actually. Incredibly filling. I mean, I’m still stuffed. Plus, I ate all of the peppers on Adam’s plate, or well, most of them, cause he doesn’t like them for whatever crazy reason. :P After that, we headed on out. We were considering ice cream, but we were all stuffed, so yeah, we skipped out on that. Then we drove to the new museum that had been opened on Friday, the modern era art museum, or something like that. It… honestly didn’t have all that much in it. At all. Although, it was in an above the ground bunker, which was really nifty; I always love historical things like that, especially related to WWII, but I’m still confused why it was… above the ground, and not below, if it was a bunker… Ah well! There was some train on train tracks standing outside. When I mean standing, I mean… the tracks rose up into the air, not… settled on the ground, haha. We went to the top of the bunker, which gave us a beautiful 360 view of Wrocław from that area. You could see down to Rynek, and obviously SkyTower… And inside the bunker, they’re building this colorful coffee shop. It is really neat! It’s essentially these colorful strips, white, lime green, blue, pink, and black, and they are put up at different levels. Honestly, it’s difficult to explain, so I’ll try and share a picture with you guys if I get one; we took some with Agata’s phone.
Then we left, incredibly grateful they did not make us pay a fee… I mean, it was a nifty walk about, but to have us pay for it, I think we all would’ve been a little bit upset. Where did we go from there? Wellll…. To Ikea! Bahahah! I haven’t been to Ikea in forever, and they actually needed to get some things anyways, and I was more than happy to go, cause I just like imagining what my future home will be like… Get ideas, ya know? :) …. I’ve probably picked that up from my mom… which will likely be to my dad’s horror…
However, before then, we took a little side trip on the newly built highway by Wrocław, which cuts down travel time from 45 minutes tooooo 15ish minutes. Major improvement. Three lanes, one direction, and Agata was just in shock, because it’s not normal in Poland. Not necessarily in shock it exists, but ya know, just adjustment shock. The bridge we went over was gorgeous: very tall, white support cables, just pretty. And it was lit up all pink from the sunset! We passed by the stadium as well, which is looking better and better; they’re still working on the parking lot. It’s really nifty, cause it’s on an incline and a turn. Of course, Agata and Adam noted how dangerous that is, because if one car loses its brakes while in the parking lot or something, then they’re will be some accident… but I just thought of Tennessee, so it really didn’t make a difference to me, haha. Although, I knew a lot more about the stadium than they did, hahaha. Obviously, that’s because Michał has told me a lot, but still, it’s weird not really being a native yet knowing more about something. Anyways, so we just drove down the highway so that Adam could show how amazing of a drive it was, simple and clean, and I agree. We ended up turning back finally, at the first chance we got, and the sunset was absolutely gorgeous. That drive was worth it just for the sunset. Pinks, purples, beautiful orange globe. Stunning. I haven’t seen one like that in a while, so I was happy with that.
Then we finally arrived to the area were Ikea was. Along with Castorama, ElectroWorld, Obi, and some other major stores. When we pulled into the area, my first thought was how American it was. It looked incredibly American, and even while driving up to it, on the high ways and stuff, it felt far more American than in the middle of the city. I mean, I was even in a bit of a daze with all of the driving, like Agata was, simply because a) I’m from small town Maryville and b) I’ve adjusted quickly to the more European setting. Either way, we went into Ikea, I got a Lingon berry drink, Adam got some sort of dessert, which I tried as well, and was delicious, and we went through the store. They even bought me a really nifty picture frame set! It’s like a roll of film, and you can put pictures in it, and I’m so going to print some out to put in it and hang on the nails already in my bedroom! So excited!
It was really fun looking through the kids area with them; they got Tymon some stuff, including a rabbit in a racing carrot and a set of plushie vegetables, since Tymon “feeds” his animals a lot. I’m sure he’ll take full use of those veggies, despite what Adam thought. The kids section was adorable, though, of course. It was really fun watching them pick out things for Tymon.
So yeah, that was this afternoon! I’ve had a busy week, and tomorrow, I’m going to go get my hair trimmed and relax for the afternoon! I’ve done a lot this week, which has honestly been wonderful. (: But a day to sit back and relax once in a while doesn’t hurt either! Although, I can’t believe it’s going to be Thursday already! Madness!
